Read what our residents have to say about a Blinn campus at the proposed College Station site:
“Having Blinn College in an area of family neighborhoods is a bad idea. The interests of the students and of the family neighborhoods cannot amicably coexist. Locate the new Blinn campus in Bryan.” Lynn
“With one-way access to the Science Park our Emerald Forest neighborhood will be bombarded by speedy vehicles coming down Appomattox and back up Emerald Pkwy. There is a neighborhood park and pool on Appomattox. We have a student who attends A&M and Blinn and he would drive anywhere in town for classes. So, you can truly pick a much better location with better access. Please do not do this to our neighborhoods. Your Bryan campus has several outlets to and from the campus and yet there is still major traffic. To pick this location with such limited access is not good long-term planning. Furthermore, you will create so much ill will in the community. Please listen to the taxpayers student families that you will be affecting.” Cheryl
“Thank you for standing up for our communities and letting people know about the Bryan option for Blinn College. Do not allow this to happen to our neighborhood.” Anonymous
“No way did I buy a home in Carter's Crossing to have this happen. Parents who buy homes for their student kids do not care about the families in those neighborhoods. They only care about how much money they can save and what they will make off the house when they sell it. They ARE NOT the ones having to live by their kids. WE - YOU are!!!” Roger
"A college trying to accommodate 3,500 students in a 50 acre space... the infrastructure is not there. They are going to have to come in and alter our neighborhoods and our streets. We like Blinn, we support Blinn, they do great things for our community and they are a great asset. We just don't think that the best location is right next to our neighborhood. The option to go to Bryan and to have a large space to work with is a better option for us and also a lot less expensive option for them. Please get informed and learn about this even if you do not live in one of our neighborhoods." Katy (excerpts from WTAW interview)
“Vote No!” Tim
"Very bad idea to start Blinn campus here. Please consider expanding Bryan campus for students sake and for the innumerable problems with congested traffic, etc. that will bring to us." Ganesh
"I'm actually a Blinn student. But I'm what you would call a nontraditional student. I wouldn't want a Blinn campus opening in College Station because we have enough campuses as it is for one thing and I wouldn't want to have to drive across town to go to another class. I think Blinn should stay where they're at and build around that campus if they need more buildings for classrooms. I'm myself am a life time resident to B/CS and a Mother as well. I have seen what the students do to this town and neighborhoods that used to be mostly or all residential. It's not pretty. We don't need the whole entire city to turn into this. We need to leave space for us local residents, workers, and families to live and to live in a peaceful environment that we work hard for. Not be forced to live by rent houses full of restless students. Which most of us try to stay away from. That's why we choose the areas we live in. Where there are no or almost no college student rent houses. We choose to live away from that. We choose the places we live for it to follow us or force it's way in. Nothing against students. . like I said I'm one myself. But some of us like to have the choice to live away from campus and away from restless and\or loud young college students. And most of us have a reason to choose that to. Such as having to go to bed early for work and/or having to go to bed early and get up early to take our kids to school and so the kids can get a good rest for school. Some of us every have to sleep during the day because we have to go to work at night and what is more better than living by quiet neighbors? it's not living by students that's for sure!" Anonymous
“As a resident of Emerald Forest subdivision, I oppose the proposal to locate a campus of Blinn College near our neighborhood. Bryan has better available sites that would not disrupt a residential community. Thank you.” Katherine
“Keep Blinn campus/es in Bryan. Land was even donated for this purpose.” Anonymous
"The Windwood Subdivision has already been impacted by Horse Haven (student housing) and the thru street connecting the bypass and Hwy 30. Appomattox is now a "raceway" 24/7. The speed limit is 30 MPH but the students that travel that street must not know how to read!! We are seriously thinking about moving because of the increased amount of traffic. I can't imagine what will happen if the Blinn Campus is moved to College Station." Sheila
“Besides the inconsiderate affect to the surrounding traffic and real estate, I would hope that Blinn opts to choose to expand in Bryan as it seems the wiser and better fit for Blinn.” Carrie
"The city of College Station originally wanted to locate a low impact technological company to occupy this property. So when Westinghouse bought it everybody believed it was in fulfillment of the original plan. Later, when Lynntech occupied it no one objected because the original intent was satisfied. Turning the area into a campus with hundreds of additional vehicles circulating around and many dozens of residences converted to student housing is not compatible with the land use plan envisioned years ago. The Blinn plan should be rejected." Richard
“I am particularly concerned about the traffic and parking problems in an area without sufficient access for the traffic volume. This will have an adverse effect on the surrounding neighborhoods.” Ann
“Concentrate Blinn resources in one campus, otherwise you are promoting additional traffic.” Jose
“My husband and I have lived in the Windwood neighborhood for 10 years now. Several years ago, the golf driving range closed, Gander Mountain went in, and the Horse Haven neighborhood was very quickly built. Majority of these houses are student occupied. Since that has happened, Windwood traffic has tripled, students are constantly speeding through our neighborhood to get to their homes, and the amount of litter that is now discarded on Appomattox is disturbing. I don't feel safe to have my children ride their bike on the side walk, with me present, much less to ride on the street. We own a corner lot, and I have to pick up alcoholic containers multiple times a week. Broken beer bottles are a constant problem. If these problems are just from a small portion of students passing thru, what will become of our wonderful neighborhood when Blinn expands to a very ill suited location for a college campus? Please, don't destroy our neighborhood, find a better location.” Candace
“The CS location will be a traffic nightmare.” Janette
"My primary concern is the lack of traffic and parking infrastructure to manage 5,000 new travelers in the immediate area. New highway ramp configurations will only increase congestion, and nothing can be done to address the gridlock we residents will face on our neighborhood surface roads." Blake
“It will ultimately severely devalue the quality of life of the citizens in the surrounding area. It will create huge traffic problem and gridlock. It does not make any sense.” Theo
"It will be a traffic nightmare for us and not convenient for the students either. The city will pay more for law enforcement.Taxes will go up. Overall, a very bad idea." Annapoorna
"Additional traffic from students will congest the flow of traffic on the feeder road between Emerald Parkway and Harvey Road. Concerns are that the increased traffic generated by a new college will impair our ability to enter and leave our homes and will be difficult. Our Neighbors made substantial investments in the surrounding subdivisions for a peaceful place to retire. Unfortunately, this will no longer exist if a new campus is allowed." Anthony
“College Station is already grossly overpopulated and under managed. The roads are so dilapidated and adding more people will only further this problem.” Hailey
"This is a poor business investment, with limited expansion space, spending dollars when free land is available, all campusses should be & stay in Bryan with no major distance from College Station. Having a campus in College Station does not serve or save a mileage problem from Bryan and there is a possibility that College Station residents will be taxed more because of the expenses invoved in road access development. With heavy traffic our neighborhoods will be adversely affected. The Bryan land offer includes future growth options and the land is free. This just does not make any sense to purchase a limited space property and have to pay for it. It will be blocked in by the Catholic church and Central Park. Please expaand on land in Bryan and not adversely affect homes, neighborhoods and tax paying citizens in College Station." Emma
“Locating a Blinn campus at Lynntech will change the peaceful residential character of the surrounding neighborhoods and create significant traffic problems. As a long-term resident of Emerald Forest, I respectfully request the Blinn Trustees to seek another location.” Austin
"Please do not locate Blinn in College Station." Paul
“I work in the emerald plaza subdivision, last thing we need is horrible driving students in that area rushing to get to class and not paying attention to what they should be doing!” Anonymous
“My husband and I purchased our home in Emerald Forest 26 years ago. We chose this subdivision because it was located in a quiet area away from the TAMU campus. While we understand the need for Blinn College to expand its campus facilities, we feel having this campus in such close proximity to these well-established neighborhoods will impact us negatively in the following ways: 1) Increased traffic along the bypass, Emerald Forest Parkway, Appomattox, North Forest, and Sandstone. 2) Homes sold or turned into rental property for those who can afford to relocate. 3) Decrease in property values. 4) Lower quality of life. 5) Increase in crime – who will provide law enforcement? 6) Increase in fast-food businesses, which are visually unappealing. 7) Noise pollution. I currently work at the proposed relocation site. This location is ill suited for a transient student body population. I am vehemently opposed to the planned relocation of Blinn College to this site.” Christine
“Not a good idea for College Station.” Pamela
“Besides the congestive impact on the CS neighborhoods, constructing a new bulding in Bryan would allow you to design for your specific needs rather that retrofitting a building that was constructed for a different purpose.” Wilford
"Keep our neighborhood quiet and safe for our kids!" Tracy
"I strongly support this petition. The whole reason I moved into this neighborhood was because it was essentially devoid of the issues associated with young adults (I.e., renters, unkept homes and yards, parties, parking issues, etc.)." Carrie
"The people living near the field behind the building will have the parking lot lights in our living room!" Alex
"Please reconsider the location. This would destroy the peaceful neighborhoods around my home and this area." Anonymous
“Traffic infrastructures not in place.” David
“I live by condos which is mostly rented by college students. Everyday we are dealing with kids racing up and down our straight away street. There has already been times where the cops have had to come and issue traffic tickets. Even living at the end of a street, I'm always having to watch for kids speeding down my street. I have two young children under five. My biggest fear is that they will be hit by a car the first second that I turn my back. In our neighborhood my husband has already had to deal with drunk college students tearing down signs and taking back out of anger when confronted. To my understanding the Mayor of College Station had already held meetings to address keeping college station a family safe area. This will go against everything they are trying to do if this project goes through. I pray that you will relocate the new campus. Not only for my family but the safety of others. Thank you.” Melissa
“Please choose an alternate site and have one nice campus including all the class space needed.” Jim and Cynthia
"We lived less than a block away from the Bryan Blinn Campus before we found our house in Emerald Forest. Our family had to tolerate student neighbors with evening parties, destruction of public property and poor lawn maintenance. I thought it couldn't happen here, but I've seen how extravagant some parents can be in providing an investment property for their children to manage while attending college." Fred
“Raintree is a residential subdivision adjacent to Winwood and Emerald Forest. It does not make sense to locate a college campus there.” Lee
"Keep our neighborhoods for our families and quiet and clean. I moved from Westover....go look at that neighborhood." DeLila
"It is cheaper, easier and a better fit for Blinn to expand the Blinn campus in Bryan as opposed to starting a new location in CS." Aiyanadar
"Our family recently relocated to College Station and chose our neighborhood BECAUSE of its distance away from campuses and student rental properties. Added traffic in the area is another disappointment. So much for our peaceful retirement home..." Anonymous
"Please keep Blinn College in Bryan." Bea and Ed
"One of the main reasons why we moved here is because we would be in a nice quite committee. It really makes me upset that Blinn wants to come over here. Go to Bryan!!!!!" Katie
"We really need to fight this. Poor location. Poor use of prime taxable property." David and Patti
"I remember when Blinn was at the old shopping center in Bryan off of Texas Avenue and as one of the college kids cutting through the neighborhood, along with hundreds of others, I do not want that traffic and commotion coming into our neighborhoods. We must protect our neighborhoods and keep them family friendly and not allow them to continue to be overtaken, overrun and controlled by the college students. If you want to see the damage caused by students go look at the neighborhood by College Hills Elementary between Dominik and Francis." Darla
"A better location away from residential areas would be better." Derek
“The access to this location will affect more than just the two close neighborhoods. The church will be hit the hardest. They have services that will be affected and at times just that traffic to these services slows the traffic .Rush hour in the mornings and evenings will have the cars backed up at Emerald Forest, Raintree, and the mall exits.” Robert
“PLEASE keep this peaceful residential area!” Kelly
"I would expect Brazos County to pay close attention to whether this campus is approved. If so, the property taxes should be significantly lowered for all surrounding neighborhoods. With regards to the campus, we put so much financial and physical effort into our dream home, to think that it would be compromised by a college campus laid in between family neighborhoods is simply unacceptable." Jason
“Trustees should know better than to farm Blinn out to College Station after all the work we did to bring them to Bryan.” Sarah and Bud
"In addition to everything else, the opening of Sumpter, Appomattox, and Antietam streets to thru-traffic will destroy the quality of life in Raintree Subdivision, which we have spent decades of hard work investing in. This additional campus is needed, but a sensible location could be, and should be chosen." Cheryl
“There are other areas in College Station that are better suited for this project besides a residential neighborhood.” Israel
"I believe that the Blinn Campus should not be located at the proposed site. The increased traffic will cause a great deal of disruption to the adjoining neighborhoods, cause an increase in traffic that will allow for dangerous conditions for the numerous children who live and play in the neighborhood." Joey
"Protect our Neighborhood! Too much traffic and congestion." Anonymous
"Has the Board at Blinn considered how much it will cost to restore the old building near our neighborhood versus starting from scratch somewhere else? At the end of the day they will have an old building that has been left vacant for years and will have upset all of us in neighborhood by adding traffic, noise and safety issues to our once quiet neighborhood and spent tens of millions of dollars!!! Go somewhere else!!! There has to be a better alternative to that old building and the upset that it is causing to our neighborhood!" Jerry
"DON'T use the Lynn Tech building location for a Blinn campus. This location will intensify the traffic issues at the intersection of Eearl Rudder Fwy and 2818." Virginia
“I am worried what kind of exposure my kids will be prone to.” Darrah
"I believe that the Blinn Campus should not be located at the proposed site. The increased traffic will cause a great deal of disruption to the adjoining neighborhoods, cause an increase in traffic that will allow for dangerous conditions for the numerous children who live and play in the neighborhood." Joey
"I say no to Blinn locating on Lyntech property." Anonymous
"I say no." Neil
"I completely oppose this campus being housed in the middle of family neighborhoods, especially in light of the fact that free property is being offered in Bryan. What a waste of taxpayers money." Rachel
“For 20 years, Emerald Forest has been my home--a place of peace and rest. Please keep it that way. No Blinn, no fooling!” Carroll
“We moved to our neighborhood in Raintree for the peaceful atmosphere and family friendly environment. We love that it is an established quiet neighborhood of families, retirees, professionals and lower student population. We do not want this peaceful environment gone due to Blinn moving its campus here....Choose the Bryan Location that makes more sense traffic wise, infrastructure wise, and safety wise and keeps students in student housing to meet their special needs and families in their quiet neighborhoods to meet our needs. We bought in this location not in another due to the neighborhood and it not being student populated and do not want to lose what we have worked hard to continue here with our special location. WE DO NOT want the Blinn campus almost on top of our quiet family neighborhoods.” Laura
“The location of Blinn here is bad idea with too many negatives to even list.” Robert
"We moved away from TAMU to avoid what will most likely develop with this plan. Will Blinn compensete my wife and me in any way for all of this? Probably not." Brent
"Spend the money on more useful things. Donate it to more financial aid to students who need it." Deborah
“Students will undoubtedly use St. Thomas Aquinas' church parking lot to park and to cut through in order to get to North Forest Rd. Emerald Forest will see an increase in traffic, especially along Emerald Pkwy and Appomattox. Further, CS will most definitely need to invest in sets of traffic lights at the bypass and FM 2818/Emerald Forest Pkwy. Further, civil engineers should be utilized to ensure that neighborhood residents have the ability to be reached and to exit in emergency. There is a very limited number of through roads for the neighborhoods and increased traffic could make things dangerous.” Anonymous
“We all need to be concerned and united in keeping our neighborhoods family oriented and peaceful. If we had wanted to live among students we absolutely would not have moved in these neighborhoods.” Bonnie
“Please leave this part of College Station peaceful and without the traffic Blinn would bring.” Rhonda
"Agree with petition." Jack
"We moved to this neighborhood 20 years ago to enjoy the peaceful, tranquil atmosphere. 44 years ago I was a college student, living off campus ( at another university.) I know, from personal experience, about the "Animal House" lifestyle - been there, done that. My wife and I are both now retired and we do NOT want these students invading our neighborhood, destroying the tranquility we moved here for." Daniel & Janet
"We urge Blinn College to plan for a long-term solution to its building needs by choosing the Bryan location." Katherine
"Congestion in area tough enough with expanding medical facilities!" Anonymous
"We just moved into emerald forest from Bryan to get away from the Blinn traffic. they need to stay in Bryan." Thomas
"Keep it in Bryan." Kelli
"Blinn needs to plan on future growth and the Lyntech acreage and location does not provide for future growth. I am a Emerald Forest resident and I ask you to locate in far north Bryan on the Harrison property." Anonymous
"Again this city is ignoring what the public wants and implementing what they think we need. Read our lips," KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOODS FAMILY ORIENTED"!!!!!" Gerald
"We are against the new Blinn campus location at CS." Limei
"This facility was not designed as a college campus. What urban planner would approve of this? None that I am aware of." Dan
"How can the Blinn board justify to tax payers the turning down of free land in Bryan for a multi-million dollar piece of land in the middle of College Station family neighborhoods, which has restricted growth potential? Even though the Lynntech property has significant acreage, Blinn can't expand any further because of the churches and neighborhoods around the property. My Wife and I saved for 7 years to buy a home in Emerald Forest because we felt it would be a protected neighborhood from college students (whom I love, but don't want as neighbors) where our kids could play freely on the streets, neighbors would take care of their property and yards, and we could live in peace and quiet through our retirement. It is already congested in the morning when leaving the neighborhood at the intersection of 2818 and the bypass. I can't imagine what it would be like with thousands for students and faculty going to class. There is also talk of making adjustments to the feeder road with new entrances, etc. Again, how can the City of College Station and Blinn justify to tax payers that this is financially responsible when there is FREE LAND IN BRYAN!!!!" Rachel
"We are not in favor of the new blinn campus being located in College Station." Caitlyn
"A Blinn campus at the Science Park will be extremely expensive and create a traffic nightmare for all of our neighborhoods. Even changing the feeder configuration won't change the impact that this campus will have on single family dwellings in the area. How can we consider spending more money on our feeder systems to accommodate the traffic hazard that this campus will create. Do not put the new campus in our neighborhoods." Judith
"Locating an additional Blinn campus in the middle of a highly trafficked and populated area will only intensify the traffic issues. PLEASE locate this additional campus in a location away from family neighborhoods!" Beth
"Not enough roads in/out of Emerald Forest/Raintree areas to accommodate a campus such as the proposed without major, extensive, disruptive, inefficient and dangerous traffic alternatives, such as the new Highway 6 exit ramp by Academy/Gander Mountain, where drivers come off at 75+ mph into narrow lanes and then try to get to Academy by crossing two traffic lanes in less than one tenth of a mile..." “The access to this location will affect more than just the two close neighborhoods.

"Not enough roads in/out of Emerald Forest/Raintree areas to accommodate a campus such as the proposed without major, extensive, disruptive, inefficient and dangerous traffic alternatives, such as the new Highway 6 exit ramp by Academy/Gander Mountain, where drivers come off at 75+ mph into narrow lanes and then try to get to Academy by crossing two traffic lanes in less than one tenth of a mile..."
